where are you located?

Inside of the 1078 Gallery at 1710 Park Avenue! We know it can be tricky to find us since there isn’t any identifying signage outside, but we promise we’re in there. Our space is on the corner of Park and 17th, you can’t miss it!

what are your hours?

Check out our schedule + location tab! Then check our calendar for scheduled / irregular closures.

can i make a mobile order?

Yes, you can! We have now gone live with mobile ordering HERE. In an effort to streamline your experience and give you the best and fastest service, we will no longer be accepting ordering via text, call, or any other way.

where are your canned lattes available?

  • Right here at Equilateral! We try to stay on top of restocking the fridge, and are typically willing to make you some cans on the spot if we are out (we may say no if it is too busy, but if you give us notice, we will make sure to have them ready for you).

  • Brooklyn Bridge Bagel Works is now carrying our canned lattes for you to purchase while you’re there grabbing your favourite bagel. Now all of you folks complaining that we aren’t downtown have a way to still have Equilateral.

  • Terrain Park Climbing Center through their snack bar! TPCC recently expanded their space and built out an incredible adventure play area for your kiddos, as well as a designated toddler area! They also added in some new auto belay climbing walls which are super awesome.

  • Chico Chaihouse keeps a few in their new tea house fridge just a couple of blocks down Park Ave! Chico’s newest teahouse is bright and beautiful. Check it out and grab a can, some chai, and some toast!

are you hiring?

Nope, we are not hiring! It is not something we are interested in taking on at this time.

how do you make your syrups?

The methods and recipes are a secret, of course! This is our livelihood, we’re sure you can understand why we—or any other business— are unwilling to just go around giving out our recipes. Enjoy them by supporting us, that’s the best!

do you have almond milk?

Nope! We offer oat, soy, and coconut milk alternatives and are very happy with that selection.

Why not? Well, we have several reasons. But ultimately what it comes down to is: no one business can offer every single thing. We carry three alt milk options already, and even if we carried almond, we STILL have people asking for hemp, macadamia, pistachio, etc etc etc. Just like anywhere else, we have what we have and we hope you will try it. If none of these options work for you, you could always try a milk free beverage. Like what? Americanos, iced or hot coffee, hot or iced teas, or a matcha made with water only! The options may not be vast but they are good.

what’s the wifi password?

We don’t offer wifi, sorry! We know that’s strange for a coffee shop these days, but if we’re being honest, we’re not really sure how that came to be expected of a coffee shop anyway. It may be a really nice convenience, but it’s not really necessary for us due to the fact that we have very limited seating available in the first place.

will you ever have indoor seating?

Most of the time, the answer to this is yes, but a very limited amount. When the rotating art shows permit, the gallery allows us to have some of our tables and chairs inside in their space. Sometimes it doesn’t work with the show or space and that A-OK, which means more seating outside. We really just rent the little corner behind the counter, and have no right to the rest of the space. It is a shared space, and we respect what the gallery feels they need from show to show.

Who owns this?

See here.

who is your tattoo artist?

Jeremy Golden. If you’re a good, kind person and you’re ever in Chicago, book him! We fully endorse him as a tattoo artist as well as a wonderful human being.

do you have blended drinks? white mochas? caramel?

No. And just so you know what to expect, we never will. Check out our menu here to see what we offer!

do you have food?

YES! We are happy to say that Tin Roof is back up and running and we are once again carrying their baked goods. Unfortunately, we do not have any vegan or gluten free options at this time. We do not have a kitchen which is why we outsource for baked goods! What you see is what you get.

who designs your artwork?

A plethora of incredibly talented and (mostly) local artists. Check out the artwork tab for more info on each of our designs. If you click on the photo you’re interested in, it should redirect you to the creator’s Instagram profile.

where is your truck now? are you going to sell it?

The truck is at home! Yes, we are trying to sell it. Interested or know anyone who is? Send us a message through our contact form.

How did you come up with the name “equilateral”?

Well, first of all, Eileen really loves triangles. Just before buying the truck, the two of us were lying in bed brainstorming names. We knew we didn’t want anything cliche sounding, and after a long period of silence — Rylan quietly mumbled “……how about Equilateral Coffee?”. Luckily for Rylan and his anxiety, Eileen loved the name right away. We feel the name encompasses much of what is important to us, namely equality and equity. We’ve always wanted to create an environment that doesn’t feel hierarchal or give off the vibe of superiority. Being queer business owners and minorities, we’ve always been acutely aware of inequality and wanted to be upfront about our desire to fight back against the status quo.

can you cater our event?

No, we cannot! Once we moved out of the truck all of our equipment moved with us. Now the truck is just a shell and there’s nothing left in there to make coffee with. It’s also just the two of us, so it isn’t really possible to run both a cafe and a coffee truck. If you are interested in placing a bulk order for our in house canned lattes, please contact us via our contact form well in advance to discuss the possibility.

Will you stay open for our evening event or come in on your day off for our event?

Not at this time, and maybe not ever if we’re being honest. We weren’t made to work our lives away and having healthy boundaries is incredibly important for everyone! We love Equilateral, but it’s not sustainable to overwork ourselves more than we already are. As it is, we really don’t have much free time, so it’s not worth it to sacrifice what little is left.

We are so grateful for this community. You are supporting our dream. Saying no is difficult, but being a business owner is more time consuming than we could have ever planned for, so saying no is a bit of a necessity at this point.

are you interested in switching to our roastery?

Nope, absolutely not! We are completely committed to and in love with Wrecking Ball Coffee Roasters. We’re not even mildly curious about the other “fish in the sea”. We chose Wrecking Ball because we share the same values and we mesh really well. We also adore Trish and the rest of the Wrecking Ball crew. (We will not reply to your sales emails, calls, or texts regarding this matter.)

do you sell your housemade syrups?

No, and we don’t have plans to. Not even if you ask really nicely, which many of you have! We’re too busy, they’re very time consuming, and Eileen spends enough time crafting them as it is. We’re sure they’d be a hit like you all say, but honestly that’s part of the problem haha.

Where are the plants?

Their entrance is located on 17th Street right behind us! Harvests + Habitats is a separate business that has their own schedule and hours. We love what they do and are grateful to share the space with them and the 1078 Gallery.
